Vahti uses artificial intelligence

Vahti is an AI-powered call screening service. When an unknown caller reaches your Vahti number, the call is answered by an AI voice agent — not a human. The AI agent identifies the caller, determines the reason for the call, and sends you a text-based summary.

What callers are told

In compliance with Article 50(1) of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), every caller is informed at the very beginning of the conversation that they are speaking with an AI assistant, and on whose behalf the AI is answering. The disclosure is spoken in plain language, in the language of the conversation, before any substantive interaction begins.

How calls are processed

• The AI agent uses speech recognition (STT) to understand the caller
• A language model processes the conversation and determines the caller's identity and intent
• Text-to-speech (TTS) generates the AI's spoken responses
• A text-based summary is created and sent to the Vahti user
• No audio recordings are stored — only text summaries and transcripts
• The AI does not make decisions on behalf of the user

AI system classification

Vahti's AI call screening system is classified as a limited-risk AI system under the EU AI Act. It is subject to transparency obligations under Article 50(1) — the requirement to inform natural persons that they are interacting with an AI system. Vahti does not perform emotion recognition, biometric categorisation, social scoring, or any high-risk AI functions listed in Annex III of the AI Act.

Vahti Technologies Oy acts as both the provider (developer of the AI system) and deployer (operator of the service) under the EU AI Act.

Regulatory framework

This notice is published in compliance with Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the EU Artificial Intelligence Act), which took effect on 2 August 2026. The transparency obligations require providers and deployers of AI systems that interact directly with natural persons to inform those persons that they are interacting with an AI system.
